LA 3e DIVISION BLINDEE AMERICAINE
La Spearhead, également appelée la third herd.
The division was activated on 15 April 1941 at Camp Beauregard, Louisiana. In June 1941, it moved to Camp Polk Louisiana (now Fort Polk). On 9 March 1942, it came under Army Ground Forces and was assigned to the II Armored Corps. In July 1942, it was transferred to Camp Young, CA and from August to October 1942, took part in maneuvers at the Desert Training Center. It left Camp Young in January 1943 and moved to the Indiantown Gap Military Reservation, Pennsylvania.
The 3rd AD arrived in the European Theatre on 15 September 1943, conducting pre-invasion training in the Liverpool and Bristol areas. It remained inSomerset, England until 24 June 1944, when it departed to partake in the Normandy operations.

Junior ELSHOVE faisait parti de la 3e division blindée et participa à la bataille de Normandie.
On le voit ici en compagnie de deux jolies françaises qui posent avec lui pour la photo.

Voici un casque américain M1 repeint terrain en olive drab avec insigne de la spearhead. Comme tous les exemplaires rencontrés, c'est un morceau de papier découpé, puis collé et vernis.
Nous pouvons observé le premier type d'insigne.
Celui-ci avait était certainement à un moment donné dissimulé sous la couche d'olive drab, il fut ensuite détouré.
Ce casque a été retrouvé dans une succession du côté de Chateau-Thierry, France.

Le casque léger "liner" porte un matricule : S-4844
Particularité observée : les jugulaires sont étonnement cousues loin du pontet.
