German
soldier Franz Grasser (26.03.1911 - 13.11.1944) was already a gifted
photographer before the war, but it’s his war-period work that is
particularly poignant.
Conscripted
in 1942, during his service with the German Army he kept taking photos,
leaving us an extensive collection of documents in b&w and AGFA
colour. Straying away from scenarios of death and destruction, his
photos focused mainly in his companions and the wide landscapes of
southern Soviet Union and its people.
When
his division (the 376th ID) was destroyed in southern Ukraine in August
1944 he was declared MIA. The German War Grave Commission has him
listed as deceased in Soviet captivity near Novorossiysk in November
1944.
Note: RECOLORIZED pictures in the tones of German AGFA colour film.
